Create a new connection (Issue 1002)


This article explains how to create a new dial-up connection in Windows XP.


  • Click on your Start menu, then Control Panel
  • Near the upper left corner of the window, click on Switch to Classic View
  • Double-click on Network Connections
  • Near the upper-left corner of the window under the subheading Network Tasks, click on Create a new connection
  • Click Next
  • Select the first option and click Next
  • Select the second option and click Next
  • Select the top option and click Next
  • Type in Mercury Network or Mercury and click Next
  • Enter your local access number and click Next
  • Enter your Mercury Network login name next to User name. Your login name is the first part of your e-mail address that comes before "@" sign
    Enter your password twice to confirm it and make sure Use this account... and Make this the default Internet connection are the only things checkmarked. Click Next
  • If you want a shortcut icon for this connection on your desktop, put a checkmark next to Add a shortcut... and click Finish
